Hackintosh Direct Upgrade From macOS Sierra to High Sierra

direct upgrade siera to high siera

On 25 September 2017 is the day of Apple releases the final version of macOS High Sierra after a few times of beta released of course, and the day is today when I write this post. And maybe just like all of you Hackintosher! I really exited too! And yeah after the update released, I download the installer from App Store in the morning I wake up from sleep and just can’t wait to try it on my low budget ackintosh PC.

But this time I don’t create a bootable SB drive to install the OS, this time is different. This time I do the upgrade from existing installed macOS Sierra on my machine. In this post, I want to share my experience with you guys how to direct upgrade macOS Sierra to High Sierra.

Is there a problem?

Yeah there is a little problem. But it fixed anyway.

Is it okay to upgrade if you have Windows OS installed on the same drive?

Yeah it’s Okay!

Can it installed on Core2 duo ( Low budget PC) ??

Yeah it can!

If you wanna know my hackintosh PC spec is:

Proc : 3,17 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Graphics card (VGA): NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 512 MB

Memory : 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

HDD : 160,04 GB SAMSUNG HD160JJ (SATA)

So! by posting this,  I hope you guys can upgrade your Hackintosh to the latest version of macOS. In this case, is High Sierra without fear of ruining your Hackintosh

But of course be wise for safe, always back up your data first. We never know, sometimes PC goes weird.

[Important!] This is for a vanilla only! don’t do this if you are using distro it won’t work. If you want, you can read the on how to make Vanilla Hackintosh from Windows and from Mac OS

To make it from Windows here: How to Make Hackintosh Bootable USB Drive From Windows

Mac / Hackintosh here: How to Make Mac OS Sierra Bootable Usb Drive With Disk Utility

Okay! let’s back to the point.

This is what you can do to Hackintosh Direct Upgrade From macOS Sierra to High Sierra (10.13.) smoothly

#1. Just in case! please first back up your important data on drive where macOS installed.

#2. Download the OS (High Sierra) from the App Store. After finish downloading, the installer will automatically open so close it!

#3. Download the latest version of Clover boot loader from Source Forge [If you have the of Clover_v2.4k_r4114 installed on your EFI partition I think it’s fine]

#4. And If you have any additional like VoodooHDA etc installed on SLE (System Library Extension) delete it from there! [You may need to backup it before delete it.]

This additional kext what caused the OS could not boot during or after the upgrade process.

#5. After done, with all these , open the macOS High Sierra Installer App on Application folder. This time click ‘Continue’ .

#6. Your PC will restart several times during the process. And if everything working as it should, then it should be easy.

Trouble shoot High Sierra can’t boot

Just in case your hack failed to boot after upgrading, try to boot in safe mode.

This what to me because I forgot to delete VoodooHDA from S/L/E. ?

This problem solved by ing in safe mode and then I delete the file and after reboot and boot normally I install again the VoodooHDA .

One more, make sure connect your PC to the internet using Ethernet port during the .

You can read my post for how to enable sound in ackintosh with VoodoHDA here How to Enable Sound in Hackintosh

If you want to create macOS Sierra bootable US drive using Vanilla method from Windows and then upgrade it to High Sierra, you can follow the guide here How to Make Hackintosh Bootable USB Drive From Windows

To create bootable USB drive from existing ackintosh or real Mac here How to Make Mac OS Sierra Bootable Drive With Disk Utility /Terminal

Just another closing words

This is what I’ve done to upgrade my ackintosh to macOS High Sierra. It works just smooth as usual.

And yeah! I am happy ?

Okay! I hope this post can help you to go direct upgrade your Hackintosh just like I did rather than install it from the USB drive. It saves times, and yeah just to let you know it won’t work anymore since on High Sierra Apple change the Installer files structure.
