Want to install macOS Mojave on hackintosh computers? Think again guys! You all know that the macOS Mojave officially release at September 24 yesterday. And yeah I also really exited to test it by install it on my low budget hackintosh pc.
I do direct install, but I try macOS Mojave on different partition than the main drive. Which is already installed macOS High Sierra 10.13.6.
The good news is macOS Mojave successfully installed. The bad news is macOS Mojave won’t to load in the first macOS post installation setup after it successfully installed.
It because my Graphics card is obviously not compatible for Metal display technology at all. And yeah I know that! I mean my purpose to install macOS Mojave on my low budget hackintosh is just to test if it can be installed on low spec pc.
The answer is definitely it can! the problem is, this amazing OS by Apple only can run if your graphics card support Metal “technology.
So what’s the solution if you want to install macOS Mojave on hackintosh pc?
To Install macOS Mojave on Hackintosh You Need to Upgrade Graphics Card That Support Metal Display
Okay! this is might be the only solution if you want macOS Mojave to run on hackintosh pc. Is you need to upgrade your graphics card that known support for metal display.
So my suggestion if you wanna upgrade your graphics card that is Metal-capable do the deep research first.
According to Apple this is some list of graphics card model that will work with Metal display. So you will get the idea to find similar graphics card for your hack.
These specific third-party graphics cards are Metal-capable and compatible with macOS Mojave on Mac Pro (Mid 2010) and Mac Pro (Mid 2012):
- MSI Gaming Radeon RX 560 128-bit 4GB GDRR5
- SAPPHIRE Radeon PULSE RX 580 8GB GDDR5
- SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition
- NVIDIA Quadro K5000 for Mac
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 Mac Edition
Apple said, that some other third-party graphics cards*by AMD GPU families might also be compatible with macOS Mojave on Mac Pro (Mid 2010) and Mac Pro (Mid 2012) so it might be also compatible on hackintosh computers:
- AMD Radeon RX 560
- AMD Radeon RX 570
- AMD Radeon RX 580
- AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100
- AMD Radeon RX Vega 56
- AMD Radeon RX Vega 64
- AMD Radeon Pro WX 9100
- AMD Radeon Frontier Edition
To dig more, you can read the full article about macOS Mojave metal-capable graphics and other useful info at Apple website: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208898
You can also doing research on other site about it before think to buy a new graphics card.
Even on “real Mackintosh” computers, not all models are compatible to install macOS Mojave on it.
So guys, its better to do a really really deep research first before you crack your wallet to buy the new graphics card.
Another issue I’ve found is, with the latest Clover boot loader version. If you are using PS2 mouse and keyboard. And you are following my tutorials and using the same exact kext that I use. Your PS2 kext won’t work.
So! if you still want to use ps2 mouse and keyboard to navigate during the boot process, use Clover_v2.4k_r4533. That version is still capable to boot macOS Mojave on hackintosh pc. And your ps2 mouse and keyboard also still works with the “kext.
So with this post I want to clarify that is possible to install macOS Mojave on hackintosh pc using “my” vanilla method.
May be I will upgrade my graphics card after doing some research. Or may be not … for now I still happy using High Sierra 10.13.6 on my low budget hackintosh.
Or … maybe I will buy a new iMac .. who knows!? :p
