Finally, I can jam on macOS High Sierra that before I can do it because some of the with the sound won’t come out from USB Audio Interface. By the way, I just bought a new SB audio interface called DS-1 by DS Coustic and I found that I need to figure out how to make it work on macOS High Sierra.
Because you know! since Sierra most of USB audio interface having some issue. No matter the brand or the price, if it was incompatible, then you likely will have the same issue. A most common issue was macOS initiated the USB Audio Codec. But when you try to record or jam into DAW apps. There is no sound coming out. In other case is, the sound come out but it sound poorly distorted.
And the worst cases is, when you got this alert; “USB Accessories Disabled – Unplug the accessories using too much power to re-enable USB devices.”
While you have tried all the method to fix it and you don’t see any result. So, in this post I want to share with you guys how did I fix it.
It’s work for me and I hope it also works to solve your USB Audio Interface issue too. Ok! this is how I solved the issue;
How to fix USB Audio Interface Issue On macOS
Is simple method so you don’t have to reset Apple SMC etc. The trick is by adding an aggregate device on macOS Audio Midi Setup.
To add an aggregate device first, you need to go to Application > Utilities.
Then find and open Audio Midi Setup app. In Audio Midi Setup app you’ll see all of your list of audio including your USB Audio Interface. Usually, macOS recognized it as USB AUDIO CODEC.
Click on the ) button on the left bottom of the Audio Midi Setup app. And choose ‘Create Aggregate Device’
Once you create Aggregate Device, select your USB Audio Interface for the Input and Output and also set the sample rate to 44,1 kHz.
By default, it set to 48.0 kHz. Next, choose the clock source on the input. Additionally, you can also check the drift correction on both or just on the output, just experiment with it.
Below is the screenshot for example:
After you are with setting for Aggregate Device, you now should see it on Audio Setting in System Preferences and in your DAW audio setting too.
So, open your DAW software. And on the audio settings, change from Audio Codec to Aggregate Device.
Next .. test it out! now the audio interface output sound should work again. If not, try to restart the DAW.
If still doesn’t work, and sound still won’t come out. It could be the DAW that incompatible with the macOS Sierra/High Sierra.
As I ed before, since Sierra most of audio interface and “Audio production” software having this kind of issue.
Conclusion
So … the problem is the macOS itself. It may hard, but downgrade to the old version of macOS is the only choice rather than buying new gear.
I don’t know? what do you think? please let me know your thought in the comment below. And yeah! I hope it can solve your issue just I did to my USB Audio Interface 🙂
Note! by adding new Aggregate Device doesn’t fix the USB Accessories Disabled alert when you unplug and plug in again your audio interface. In my case I just simply ignore it.
P.S. It works on Hackintosh computers too ;p
