Multi Niche Blog VS Specific Niche Blog Which One You Prefer?

I write this topic after I read a post on Semper Plugin blog about something ‘how to choose the right domain name for SEO stuff.’ They talk about how you choose your domain name will effect your ranking on google. And how everything has changed after Google Exact Match Domain update.

And after reading their post, I feel that my decision when I start this blog is right, or you can say lucky. Because my idea at that time was to create a blog that has multi-niche content on it. But have a correlation between the different topic of all niche that I choose to talk about.

By the way! if you notice, there are so many blogs on the internet that using specific niche keywords or SEO expert call it Exact Match Domain (EMD) in their domain names something like e.g makemoneyonline.com, etc [Note! this domain name is for example purpose only]

Before I start this blog, I actually have a plan to buy a domain name using a specific niche keyword or Exact Match Domain. And just working on one specific topic.

But I change my decision, I think it’s better to consider choosing a name that spells more like a brand name. In my case ‘‘ rather than a specific niche keyword based domain names.

My reason here is clear. Like I’ve said before I want to build a blog that has a multi-niche content on it but try to find topics that still have the in between. I know, it sound crazy. But I see more advantages in the future if I use the ‘catchy brand names’ for ‘Multi Niche Blog’ purpose.

So! Its really using the specific niche keywords for your blog good for SEO and does it really will make your blog easily get rank high on Google? Let’s find out the essential pros and cons using EMD and brand names for a blogger!

I am not going to dig too deeper here, just try to catch the point of the ‘big lines’ of advantages and disadvantages for “SEO effect.”

Pros and cons of specific niche blog

#The advantage;

The advantage of having a blog with a specific niche is if you are planning to build a blog for working as an affiliate.

You can easily engage your audience with a specific niche and make them as a loyal reader for your blog. You maybe will easily manage your email list for sure. And make it easy to plan it beforehand.

#Disadvantage;

If the that you choose is not something you really know much about it, it will make you difficult to continue creating content based on the niche. Even if you really having good knowledge about it, you will sometimes easily get stuck or bored.

Another disadvantage of having a single niche with Exact Match Domain nowadays is, there is a bunch of spam site on the internet that using EMD too. So you may have a risk of having issues for Google think that your blog is my site.

Pros and cons of having multi niche blog

#The advantages;

This is based on my experience and experiment, that having a multiniche blog is; you can always have a fresh idea for content writing. And you can create a rich segment of all the content.

Another advantage is likely Google will love the blog that has catchy brand names that easy to remember this year and maybe in the next year too. According to the article I’ve read from Semper Plugin blog that said; “Google now cares more about brands for SEO than it does about keywords and links.” so I believe it works on blogger blog too and not only for a company website.

#Disadvantages;

You will need to work more ‘hard.’ Because usually, a website that has multiple contents like Forbes, Mashable, etc have more than one content creator, redactor and ya! editor.

Another disadvantage is you maybe a little bit hard to get subscriber at the beginning, But if you can make your content have ‘red thread’ between one post to another I am pretty sure that your audience will understand.

That’s why I prefer to talk only a few niches that having a between one and another.

Conclusion

And one thing for sure, having a -niche blog is more saving your budget, unlike if you have to build a blog with the specific keyword that you make a few blogs for every single niche. Multi niche blog can save your budget by putting all those topic in one place.

Of course, you can’t put a topic about parenting along with tech stuff it will look awkward. But you can make parenting stuff looks good to place it alongside with health and baby clothes for example.

By the way! beside other the pros and the cons both of them (multi-niche and specific niche blog). The fact is, what makes a blog get rank high on Google was not about the domain names that having URL or domain names that match with the keywords. But because of the wellwriting articles. Besides the technical stuff like put keywords in permalink etc.

For me, I prefer to choose a catchy domain name for my blog. It’s more way better if you use your names as your brand as your digital ID before someone with the names that have the exact same name your name take it before you.

So! for you who have no blog yet or plan to build a blog this year, what you prefer?
