How to Move Blog From Blogspot To Self Hosted WordPress

Move Blog From Blogspot To Self Hosted WordPress

Hi guys! in this post, I will share tips on how to move blogs from Blogspot to self-hosted WordPress without losing “SEO” traffic.

Here, we will transfer all the old blog content in Blogger Blogspot including domain address and also all permalink of all your blog posts. So all links of your post will be automatically redirected to the new WordPress blog.

These tips will be especially helpful for you who have already bought a domain for Blogspot and changed your mind to move your blog from blogger Blogspot to WordPress. In this case move to self–hosted WordPress.

Make sure you have bought Web hosting first, it can be purchased at the company where you buy the domain names or buy from another company, no problem.

If still confused looking for a good and fast web hosting provider. We highly recommend to purchase it at SiteGround.

Okay, let’s back to the point, here is the step by step how to move all your blog content. As well as moving the domain URL address.

Move the domain url address to web hosting

First, you have to disable your domain address URL in Blogger Blogspot and return it to the dot-blogspot.com address first.

To do that, just go to Blogger Dashboard > Settings> Basic> Publishing.

Well you there, click [X] in your domain URL address that already connected to Blogspot.

This is important for later when transferring your domain to the new web hosting you’ll deal with no issue.

[Important!] just in case, you may need to back up your blog first. To back up all Blogspot content just go to Settings > Other > Import & back up > Back up Content.

After you finish disabling your custom URL in Blogger Blogspot, now we go to delete DNS record for your Blogspot domain.

Delete DNS records for Blogger Blogspot

It is also very important that later when connecting/propagating domains to new the host without a problem.

To delete the blogger’s DNS record, just log in to the member area of the company site where you purchased your domain and then go to the settings for the DNS record where you used to create DNS records for Blogger Blogspot and delete all DNS records that are there.

After that, update the name server to your new web hosting. Like the example in the screenshot below. I purchased the domain name in company A but I linked it to the hosting I bought at BOC Indonesia.

Here I am replacing Nameserver 1 from ns1.companyA.com to ns91.serverorange.com and Nameserver 2 ie ns2.companyA.com to ns92.serverorange.com

For Nameserver 3 and 4 can be left empty or by default.

Usually, when you buy a new hosting, you will get an email containing information about the IP server address, Nameserver hosting, etc.

How to properly do it yourself a Domain Name Propragation to Web hosting

There are two ways to propagate/connect your domain address to web hosting.

The first is to ask for help the technical support web hosting service providers.

The second way is to do it yourself.

Once the propagation process is done, it’s time Install WordPress in your hosting. For the tutorial on how to install WordPress. You can read the following article How to Start A Blog With WordPress. Link will open in the new tab, so you can easily return to this page again.

When your WordPress install process is done! It’s time to move the entire contents of your blog from Blogger Blogspot to WordPress.

Move Blog From Blogspot To Self Hosted WordPress

Below is the trick that you can follow,

In the WordPress site’s WP Admin panel, you just go to the Plugins page and then Add New (Add New).

And search for the plugin with the name Blogger Importer Extended.

Then click Install and Enable plugins.

Once the Blogger Importer Extended plugin is enabled, find this plugin in the plugins list and click Start.

The Blogger Importer Extended plugin will ask your permission to log in to your Blogspot blogger account just click OK, let’s go!

Don’t worry when yurifarina.com plugin asks to access your Google account, just click Allow. See the screenshot.

If you have more than one blog, once you “Allow” plugin to access your Blogger account you will be asked to choose which blog you want to import.

In the example screenshot above I imported hermansyahfilani.blogspot.com blog to WordPress

Next, the plugin will start importing all your blog content. Just let the process complete.

After the transfer is completed Assign Author to your WordPress Author Name.

And finish!

But wait!

There are still some things that may you need to fix, you need to test whether your link has been redirected correctly or not.

Test it first by clicking on the link of the article you have share on social media for example. If there is no problem it means that you have successfully.

But if when you test link of the old articles and on WordPress site say “Error page not found”. Then, you need to fix it by checking the permalink post that has been transferred to WordPress.

This problem is generally because by default the permalink in Blogger Blogspot uses an additional .html behind each of URLs.

Well, to fix it you simply add the html behind each post URL that has been transferred to WordPress. See example in the screenshot below.

If your post is pretty much you can ask help from your sister or friend’s to help you :))

My suggestion, if you want to fix it yourself edit URL/permalink of your posts that have the most traffic first and the others can follow as you go.

Okay, that‘s it! I hope this article can help you to move your blog from Blogger Blogspot to self-hosted WordPress and transfer all your blog content without problems.

If you need any help do not hesitate to ask in the comments below.

Regards!
