Fix no display after Install NVIDIA Driver on Hackintosh

Fix no display - Hackintosh

So you just successfully install macOS Big Sur or Monterey on your Hackintosh PC. And after root patching using OpenCore Legacy Patcher and restart your computer, what you get is just a blank black screen on your monitor.

Here’s in this post, I will share my experience about why and how to fix the problem. As you may know that since macOS Big Sur, some NVIDIA Graphics cards display acceleration no longer work. In order to make it work, you need to patch and install the Nvidia driver.

It either can be done by using OC Legacy Patcher or GForce Kepler Patcher by chris1111. The good news is, it actually works!

Why is the display blank after patching the Nvidia Kepler

But why the display become blank after patching?

Based on what I experienced, I think after patching has been done macOS seems to use the HDMI as the main output display. So ya! if you use the VGA port as your display output, it will show nothing on your monitor.

I don’t know the details of the exact technical explanation about this, but you got the idea. And ya! the case is maybe you were just like me who uses a monitor that only has only VGA port. So what’s the solution?

The solution

Well, if your case is exactly like mine then the best solution is by using the HDMI to VGA Adapter/converter. In my case, after I notice the issue I immediately order the tool from the online store.

And the problem is solved! it is more money-saving rather than buying a new monitor that has HDMI input. And yeah mostly, that is more expensive.

What I did was I just switched the display output to HDMI port using the converter on my MSI GeForce GT 700 GPU. And bam! it just works. (MSI GeForce GT 700 has three outputs: VDI, HDMI, and VGA)

By the way, you can get the HDMI to VGA Converter as cheap as only $ 7 on Amazon. Please check the example of the product here at Amazon: https://amzn.to/3HftFje (My affiliate link)

Fun fact

The weird thing is after I switch the display output to HDMI using the converter and then I reverse back to VGA guess what it works again.

So, I think the issue may also occur depending on how you set the OpenCore/ Clover config.plist. But! I don’t need more headaches so I decide to buy the Adapter/Converter and get the problem done rather than waste hours tweaking the config.plist.

So … you decide your self 🙂

Anyway, hope this post is useful for your reference on how to fix the issue after patching NVIDIA Kepler using OC Legacy Patcher.

Thanks for reading.
