Easy Solution for Wifi not working on macOS

You may experience that since macOS Big Sur and Monterey, you notice that the most of wifi kext not working anymore to enable most of the wifi. This issue affects the old model of Mac and yeah Hackintosh PC of course.

In this article, I will share how I make it work and what WiFi hardware model I choose for an alternative solution. Ya, in my case, I buy a new USB Wifi dongle to solve the problem.

But unfortunately, not all model is supported using this method. So, after searching and researching finally, I found one that I can get on a low budget from a local online store on Tokopedia.

Most low-budget USB Wifi dongles

Using the external WiFi adapter is the only solution, rather than getting headaches trying to make the internal WiFi card work. Believe me, that is just a waste of time full of frustration and ending up with no solution.

There are a bunch of list USB Wifi adapters, but I found the cheapest one that is enough to solve the issue with wifi not working on macOS Big Sur and Monterey.

The Tp-Link TL-WN725N is the USB Wifi that you can get only for about $9 from Amazon. And yeah it works with the alternative driver software which is Wireless USB Adapter by chris1111.

  • Get TP-Link TL-WN725N from Amazon here (Affiliate Link)
  • Download the Driver for Hackintosh using OpenCore here: GitHub Page
  • Download the Driver for Hackintosh Clover here: GitHub Page
  • For a real Mac computer download here: GitHub Page

Below is the video of me unboxing and installing the driver on my Hackintosh PC, please watch it;

How to make it work on macOS (Important!)

So! how to make a USB Wifi adapter work on macOS Big Sur and Monterey? First thing first, for real Mac users you need to disable the Apple SIP. Read the post about this on GitHub here: https://github.com/chris1111/Wireless-USB-Big-Sur-Adapter/discussions/115

For Hackintosh Users, SIP should be already disabled. So just install the app, allow for the app to install an extension, etc, and reboot your computer.

After reboot, plug in the USB Dongle and connect to wifi using the wifi icon in the menu bar. Once it’s connected the icon should turn blue. Please watch my video for the big pic.

Note

The USB Wireless Adapter will only work on the supporter hardware, so you can’t just buy a random USB wifi dongle and wish to work. If you are lucky maybe.

TP-Link WN725N is the cheapest you can get for USB Wifi Adapter that works like a charm with the Wifi Adapter Software. And yeah! solve the problem.

Just to make it clear, it will not make the wifi in the Menu Bar Panel work because that is for the internal wifi card. Instead the Wifi Adapter software crate a new wifi icon in your menu bar.

And that’s it! hope this post can help you to find the cheapest and working USB Dongle Wifi Adapter. Thanks for reading 🙂
